A leave (often considered a shot), is where the the batter will not offer any kind of strike, stepping aside and not attacking the delivery as a better option if he judges that the ball will not hit him or the wicket, or that the ball may be going wide enough for the umpire to give a single (wide) run, or four (wide) runs if the ball reaches the boundary.
